A mainstay in all the European theatres for his Wagner role he appeared at the Met from 1912-1917 and was father of the famous actor Hermann Braun who was born in New York.

Zurich was another and he created Zemlinsky's "Kreidekreis" there in 1933. He had a very wide ranging repertory and can be heard on historical reissues from Koch and Marston. Uncommon.

325. ERSCHOV, Ivan- SPc of the Golden Age Russian helden tenor as SIEGMUND in "Die Walkure". After Italian study and some Western engagements he was engaged in St.Petersburg where he remained from 1895-1929 where one of his first roles was in the world premiere of Rimsky-Korsokoff's "The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitege." He sang the entire Italian, French and Russian dramatic repertory but was especially known for the Wagner heroes and was likened to Chaliapin as a singing actor of exceptional power in these roles. GRAHL, Hans- SPc as Siegfried Hamburg 1931 of the German tenor who for awhile was THE star and highest paid singer in Hamburg till he ran afoul of the authorities causing him to emigrate to Czechoslovakia spending the war in Breslau. He had appeared with success in Leipzig, Dresden, Vienna, Salzburg and Philadelphia After World War 2 he reappeared in Germany and finished his career there settling in Berlin and teaching. Margarete Klose was a pupil! Uncommon.

GREINDL, Josef- SP 4 x 6" Rauh Bayreuth photo of the top notch German bass whose career started in 1936 and lasted well into the 1970s as HUNDING in "Die Walkure" 1966 sepia body shot or HAGEN in "Gotterdammerung" for the 1966 festival. He sang the entire Wagner repertory at the Festival frequently appearing as Fafner, Hunding, and Hagen in the same performance of the Ring which made him the only singer in the cast who had to perform all four nights. Aside from Wagner he sang Verdi, Mozart, Strauss, Orff & others with success. A Paul Bender pupil he taught in Vienna where he died. Many fine recordings.

Habich sang from 1911 to 1931 at Bayreuth and brought his Alberich to almost every theatre that presented the Ring world wide including Teatro Colon & the Met. Besides all the Wagner roles in his range he had a vast repertory of standard works and created operas by Klenau, Kreneck and Schrecker.

Based in Munich he subsequently sang the entire Wagner repertory as well as Samson & Otello world wide till he retired in the 1970s and devoted his life to religion.

He spent most of his important career in Dresden, Munchen & 1904-1914 at the Bayreuth Festival where he was Kaiser Wilhelm & Cosima's favorite an was considered by best Lohengrin of his time. Blindness ended his career and he left only 2 records from "Die Walkure". SCARCE.
