She then worked with Rossini and sang many of his operas at the Paris Opera including the Paris premiere of " Elisabetta Regina d'Inghilterra" and created "Mose in Egitto" (French revision), "Il Viaggio a Reims". "Le Comte Ory", "Guillaume Tell" as well as Auber's "La Muette de Portici" and Meyerbeer's "Robert le Diable". She taught at the Paris Conservatory for 23 years and her book "Methjode de Chant" from 1849 is still available today called "Classic Bel Canto Techinique" a. ALS 2 pp in French. CRUVELLI, Sophie- ALS 3 pp in French written by the temperamental German born dramatic soprano trained by Spohr & Lamperti.adored by Meyerbeer who wrote Selika for her (but she did not create it) and Verdi who wrote Elena in "Les Vepres Siciliennes" for her and which she did create. Her meteoric career lasted from 1846. till about 1858 when she married Baron Vigier and retired to Nice and a life of luxury, social prominence and charity (annual performances of "Norma" in which she sang and was rewarded by the Pope with a papal title). Her career was based mainly in London where Lumley brought her to prominence and Paris where she was scandal prone. She sang vast repertory from "Attila" and "Les Huegenots" to "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" and "Fidelio" and presented the first French performance of "Lohengrin" in which she sang Elsa well after her "retirement". a.  ALS 3 pp in French. She studied with Lotte Lehmann , sang soundtracks and was discovered by the Oliviers and toured with them singing songs during set changes for "Romeo & Juliet". Toscanini was next and she sang with him from 1944.1952 in "Otello", Act 4 of "Rigoletto" with Milanov, " Falstaff" & "Orefo ed Euridice" issued on LP amnd Cd. She also appeared at the Piccolo Scala in the legendary Cantelli " Cosi fan tutte". She abandoned her career when her husband died in order to raise his children and only occasionally reappeared. SCARCE.

She sang at the Theatre Lirique where she sang much Mozart & Rossini but created about 30 operas including Masse's "Les Noces de Jeanette" and Gounod's "Faust", "Romeo et Juliette" & "Mireille". She sang often in London, Berlin & St.Petersburg. Seeing this, I am taking the liberty, my dear friend, to thank you for him for your warm best wishes. We have spent wonderful months that seem like years. 250. NONI, Alda- SP 5 x 7" Vllani Bologna photos as herself, Adina and Norina of the Trieste born soprano leggiero the kind of soubrette that does not exist any more. She studied in Vienna, debuted in Ljubiana in 1937 and was a member of the Vienna ensemble 1942-1946 where sang a huge repertory including Zerbinetta for Strauss's 80th birthday in a definitive performance available on CD conducted by Bohm with Reining, Seefried, Lorenz and Schoffler. She sang at Glyndebourne, Covent Garden, London, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, La Scala and all over Italy. She is on many of the early 1950s Cetra opera sets in performances often unsurpassed eg Norina and operas such as "Le cantatrici villane", "Il Matrimonio segreto", "I Quattro Rusteghi" etc,. She also was in the 1943 German ice skating musical " The White Dream" She retired in 1955 after the birth of her daughter taught, judged singing competitions, skied and lived for many years on Cyprus where she recently died age 95!

PAOLI, Antonio- SPc bust portrait of the GREAT Puerto Rican tenor star who after singing around Italy for a few years triumphantly debuted as Arnold in "WillamTell" in Paris 1900 and went on to sing world wide all the great dramatic roles but winning special acclaim as Otello. He lost his voice took up professional boxing with great success had an accident and went back to singing. Elvira de Hidalgo was at his comeback in as Samson and called him the greatest tenor she ever heard! He went on to have a second singing career which petered out as the 1920s wore on. He taught singing in Puerto Rico where he died. G & T recordings including "Pagliacci" under Leoncavallo's direction. VERY SCARCE.

A great star for many season in Buenos Aires (1909-1927) Pareto also appeared often in St Petersburg, Vienna, Paris, London & Chicago after her 1906 debut as Micaela and 1908 Madrid first as Amina. Her Teatro alla Scala debut was as Gilda in 1914. She was contemporary equal of Barrientos, Galvany & Capsir quite a Spanish foursome of coloraturas! 265. ROTHMULLER, Marko- SPc portrait or 4 x 6" photo as Scarpia of the great Croatian baritone and composer trained in Vienna where he studied composition with Alban Berg. He debuted 1932 in Hamburg but returned shortly thereafter to Zagreb where he sang his first Rigoletto and roles such as diLuna and Amonasro opposite Zinka Kunc (Milanov). He was a member of the Zurich Opera from 1935 till 1947 where he sang the entire dramatic Italian repertory, much Wagner such as Amfortas & Telramund, Salome and created a role in Hindemith's "Mathis der Maler" as well as some Schoeck works. After the War he was a member of the Vienna State Opera, sang a vast repertory at Covent Garden including Wozzeck perhaps his greatest role under Kleiber as well as appearing at Glyndebourne & Edinburgh in Mozart,"The Rake's Progress" and legendary performances in "Forza del destino" & "Macbeth". He sang "Wozzeck" with great success in the controversial New York City Opera production under Rosenstock in 1952 and debuted at the Met in 1959 as Kothner and sang there till 1965. He became a professor of voice at Bloomington in 1955 and lived there the rest of his life till 1993. In 1932 he founded Omanut, Verein zu forferung judischer Music (Society or the Development of Jewish Music) and wrote and published much throughout out his life. All his papers are at Bloomington. RATHER SCARCE.

In 1846 he was the first singer to sing a note at the new Theatre Royal Covent Garden appearing as Oroe in "Semiramide" He remained there until 1876 as singer in many London firsts such as "Le Prophete", "Il Trovatore", "Rigoletto", "Romeo et Juliette" etc. He sang the world premiere of Poniatowski's "Gelmina" with Adelina Patti! He also served as stage director and wrote musical criticism for "Le Menestrel" under the name "De Retz". He also sang world wide in St.Petersburg, Moscow, Dublin, Monte Carlo & New York! a. als 1 page in French. "Friday, October 20Dear Director,I was afraid you might think me presumptuous the other day for my request, but Masimon says you did not receive my letter in time. He was a great favorite of Tchaikowsky and besides the Russian repertory sang all the great Italian roles. He was especially renowned as Rubinsten's "Demon" He toured the great European opera houses and worked as a stage director at the Maryinsky as well as teaching at the conservatory of Leningrad. He died in an auto accident in 1923. Many sought after recordings. The letter says" Dear Stanislav Ivanovich.
