A pupil of Massenet she sang many of his operas and especially known for her Carmen. On stage she appeared in Maeterklinck's plays "Pelleas et Melisande" and "Arian et Barbre Blue"- Garden trumped her for the operatic premieres of "Pelleas" but she did create Dukas's "Ariane". She finally sang Melisande at the Boston premiere 1912. She was an influential force on the Paris arts scene for her entire life.
