117. LIFAR, Serge- SP 8 x 10" role photo of the super important dancer/ choreographer who was primeur danseur in Diaghilev's Ballets Russes before becoming
director of the Paris Opera ballet in 1929. He created over 50 ballets there and featured male dancers as never before. His "Icare" 1935 was conceived with
no music and later percussion was added to enhance the movement. For all life Lifar could be seen visiting Diaghilev's grave during August. This splendid

134. MORDKIN- Mihkail- SPc of the Bolshoi trained dancer where he danced and was ballet master. In 1909 he joined Diaghilev's Ballets Russes as a leading
dancer contemporary to Bolm & Nijinsky (who Diaghilev pushed). He founded his own company All Star Imperial Russian Ballet with Pavlova which toured America
during 1911/1912. He returned to the Bolshoi and was it's director till left for Lithuania after the October revolution settling in America in 1924. He
founded and toured several companies with emigre Russians including the Mordkin Ballet which later became Ballet Theatre. Lucia Chase was his pupil and
financed the company, pushed Mordkin out for being too conservative programming. He was another most important creator of what is modern American dance.
