| 55. BRODSKY, Adolf- SP on a presentation mount over- all approx 13 x 20" d/s "To my dear friend Dr J Forbes in grateful remembrance of
our "Elgar" concerto Adolf Brodsky" also signed by the photographer. Brodsky was the child of assimilated Russian Jews, a child prodigy who studied at the Vienna Conservatory. Hans Richter
was his fellow student and friend (they premiered Tchaikowsky's Violin Concerto in D which was dedicated to Brodsky). He joined his teacher Hellmesberger's Quartet as 2nd violin later
forming his own Brodsky Quartet in Leipzig and later again in Manchester. He lived and taught in Moscow, Leipzig, Berlin before settling in Manchester where he taught & directed the Halle
Orchestra. He was concert-master for the New York Philharmonic 1891.4 under Damrosch. While he was in Leipzig, Brodsky held a Christmas dinner, at which Brahams, Tchaikovsky and Grieg
attended. This sparked a friendship between Tchaikovsky and Grieg, who held high esteem for each other. (Brahms and Tchaikovsky, however, never liked or understood each other's music,

Grafenegg Festival. The Philadelphia Inquirer called him "the Viennese oracle on the core literature of Haydn, Beethoven and Brahms". His recordings are legendary especially the
