Brodsky was the child of assimilated Russian Jews, a child prodigy who studied at the Vienna Conservatory. Hans Richter was his fellow student and friend (they premiered Tchaikowsky's Violin Concerto in D which was dedicated to Brodsky). He joined his teacher Hellmesberger's Quartet as 2nd violin later forming his own Brodsky Quartet in Leipzig and later again in Manchester. He lived and taught in Moscow, Leipzig, Berlin before settling in Manchester where he taught & directed the Halle Orchestra. He was concert-master for the New York Philharmonic 1891.4 under Damrosch. While he was in Leipzig, Brodsky held a Christmas dinner, at which Brahams, Tchaikovsky and Grieg attended. This sparked a friendship between Tchaikovsky and Grieg, who held high esteem for each other. (Brahms and Tchaikovsky, however, never liked or understood each other's music, although they had cor- dial and respectful relations personally). Francis Plante's style is considered very different from modern day recording artists. The recordings available suggest a more paced performance with a more prominent accent on each beat and with the notes more pronounced. He taught and Brailowsky was among his pupils. He studied with pupils of Godowsky & Sauer. He performed world wide but is especially known for his vast output of recordings of the unknown romantic repertory for Vox and Candide much of it never before recorded. Composers include Clara Schumann, Moscheles, Alkan, Thalberg, Moszkowski & Schellendorf as well as the complete piano music of Scriabin, Tchaikowsky & Rachmaninoff. He studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory under Esipova. He had an early success touring Russia with Auer and giving solo recitals, touring Persia after the Russian Revolution escaping west settling in London living for years in a converted stable! He became an instant success there after his 1921 Wigmore Hall debut and embarked on a world wide career. He was an early broadcaster and in 1938 was televised from Alexandra Palace. A child prodigy he toured Europe coming to America in 1961 to appear on the Ed Sullivan Show which launched his American career and he settled in the US toured, and taught and made many fine recordings. He developed a guitar Department at California State University, Fresno. His home town of Córdoba was so proud of his accomplishments that they replaced the bell in the town clock with recordings of his guitar playing. A very important figure in the world of classical guitar. $125	133. TOLLEFSEN, Toralf- the famed Norwegian accordion virtuoso signs the cover of Town Hall, Ealing recital February 26, 1950. He started studying violin but at age 10 broadcast as an accordion player on a children's hour. At 18 he made his first Colum- bia record & he became an exclusive artist.
