Konwitschny was a great conductor who worked mostly in East Germany after World War11 and is a relatively uncommon signature.

50. BOBESCO, Lola & GENTY, Jacques- both sign program photo in 8 p program for 19 Dezemvro 1953 recital at Lisboa's Teatro Nacional de S.Carlos. Rumanian born Bobesco was a child prodigy and won first prize at the Conservatoire de Paris 1934 & later lost out to David Oistrakh in the 1937 Ysaye competition which led to many important engagements under Bohm, Ansermet, Kempe, Klemperer etc . She was advised by Enescu & Thibaud. Settling in Belgium she founded the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie in 1958 and a street is named after her in Brussels where she was a noted teacher at the Conservatoire. She had a long relationship with Jacquess Genty as a violin/piano team and they left many recordings UNCOMMON.

52. BROWN, Eddy- SP 4.5 x 7" Apeda NY photo of the famed American violinist & radio pioneer in a playing pose signed Sept 8,(19)17. Chicago born of Russian & Austrian parents he gave his first recital at age 6 in 1901 and was taken to Budapest in 1904 where he was trained at the Royal Conservatory of Music by Hubay, Bartok, Kodaly & Popper winning the Budapest Concerto Competition in 1906-coming in 2nd was Jeno Blau later known as Eugene Ormandy. A year later he opened the new hall of the Liszt Conservatory playing Mendelssohn's concerto. He then went to Russia and studied with Auer for 5 years at the same time as Heifetz before embarking on a triumphant tour of all the great music centers returning to the US in 1916 where his triumphs continued. He was compared with Kreisler. He recorded for Columbia, wrote a Broadway musical comedy "Roly-Boly Eyes" that ran 2 years on Broadway and concertized world wide as soloist and also playing chamber music. In 1930 he started his radio career at WOR where he created many innovative programs as well as performing moving to WQXR in 1937 where he stayed till 1949. Afterward he and his wife Lyda Betti founded the American Opera Auditions & he later taught at the University of Cincinnati. Signed photos of Brown are quite scarce.

There have been 7 works for left hand commissioned for Graffman including Bolcom's "Gaea" for 2 pianos for both Graffman & Fleischer. A prolific recording artist his most famous recorded performance was for the soundtrack of the 1979 Woody Allen movie "Manhattan" in which h he played Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" accompanied by the NYPO. Scotland born of Polish/Jewish parents ending his studies under Carl Flesch at the Curtis and was its first graduate in 1930 and embarked on a brilliant careers as recitalist and soloist under all the major conductors also coming in 3rd at the 1935 Wienawski Competition in Warsaw- Neveu won and Oistrakh was second so third was not so bad!! That year he premiered a work by the unknown Britten written for him and pianist Betty Humby (later Mrs Beecham). He had a mamouth carreer that embraced much chamber music for which he was famed and can be heard on recordings.
