Married in 1911 to Stokowski who she discovered when he was organist at St.Bartholomew's in New York she used her considerable influence to get him the vacant post at the Philadelphia Orchestra. They divorced after his affair with Garbo, she had a fall in her apartment broke her shoulder and retired to music criticism and teaching at the Philadelphia Conservatory and Juilliard. Her most famous pupil was Wililiam Kapell.

96. SAURET, Emile- AMusQS on a Bassano, cabinet photo d/s London 1893 by the famed French violinist, a Vieuxtemps pupil. After European successes he made his first American tour in 1872, and shortly afterwards married Teresa Carreno but their marriage was brief! Sauret had an enormous repertoire reputedly encompassing 70 concertos and over 400 other works. He also composed many violin compositions and did many transcriptions of music by Mendelssohn, Rubinstein & Wagner. He was always an active teacher and in 1903 took an appointment in Chicago.

He started his American career in 1934 with debuts with the NYPO in the MacDowell 2nd Piano Concerto and a Carnegie Hall recital going on to be a very busy and popular recitalist, chamber music player and orchestra soloist with all the major orchestras and conductors especially championing and premiering works by American composers such as Elliott Carter, Roger Sessions, William Schuman, Louise Talma, Robert Helps and David Diamond as well as doing first recordings of works by Berg, Stravinsky & Schoenberg. always remaining an active teacher. 107. YSAYE, Eugene- SPC of the LEGENDARY Belgian violinist shown playing. He was a Massart, Vieuxtemps, Wieniawski pupil and he later taught Gingold, Primrose and Milstein!! He was beloved as a soloist, appeared with the major orchestras during his world tours and founded the Ysaye Quartet which premiered the Debussy String Quartet. Debussy, Saint Saens, Franck and Chausson all dedicated works to him. Ysaye also composed many works and was a successful conductor leading the Cincinnati Orchestra 1918-1922.

108. ZIMBALIST, Efrem- SP 8 x 10" photo of the Russian/American violinst/composer teacher. An Auer pupil he championed early music way before it became the thing to do. His first wife was soprano Alma Gluck and after her death Mary Louise Curtis Bok the founder of The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia of which he was director from 1941-1968. He came out of retirement in 1952 to give the world premiere of Menotti's Violin Concerto which was dedicated to him. Among his pupils were Oscar Shumsky, Felix Slatkin and Hidetaro Suzuki! He died in 1985 at age 95.
