DUNCAN, Isadora- SPc of the San Francisco born dancer/teacher who started theatre and vaudeville as a child, arriving in London very young her unique "dancing style" took off and she established her first school in Germany 1904 to teach children art and movement as well as academics. Later schools in Russia and Paris financed by her caused her to perform incessantly and leave the schools to her sister to run. Her 2 children drowned in Paris and she adopted 6 from the school the "Isadorables" who later performed with "Mama"- she died in a car accident on the Riviera 1927, her scarf got caught in the car's wheels. A great original and eccentric her school continued on in Paris for many years under her brother Raymond Duncan. Signed "Kind regards Isadora Duncan March 22,1911" and mailed from Bayreuth to Paris. 59. MORDKIN, Mihkail- SPc of the Bolshoi trained dancer where he danced and was ballet master. In 1909 he joined Diaghilev's Ballets Russes as a leading dancer contemporary to Bolm & Nijinsky (who Diaghilev pushed). He founded his own company All Star Imperial Russian Ballet with Pavlova which toured America during 1911/1912. He returned to the Bolshoi and was its director till left for Lithuania after the October revolution settling in America in 1924. He founded and toured several companies with ŽmigrŽ Russians including the Mordkin Ballet which later became Ballet Theatre. Lucia Chase was his pupil and financed the company, pushed Mordkin out for being too conservative programming. He was another most important creator of what is modern American dance. She started as a dancer in the Mary Wigman troupe and by 1929 was choreographer in Berlin & Munich. She came into her own at the Salzburg Festivals of the 1930s under the wing of Bruno Walter and was Chief of ballet at the Wiener Staatsoper 1934-1938 when she emigrated to Argentina.
