| 130. ABENDROTH, Hermann- TLS from the eminent German conductor with long tenures first with the orchestra in Koln and then with the Leipzig Gewandhaus as well as
at the conservatories in both cities. He conducted the USSR State Symphony 1925-1928 and the London Symphony Orchestra 1926-1937. This letter is addressed to
"Liebes zweiklavierges Ehepaar!"(Dear married duo pianists)- (Karl and Elizabeth Pillney) "I am so happy that my suggestion fell on fertile ground and resulted
in your unconditional agreement. So, we leave it as follows: He plays d-minor (by the way, this is also my decided favorite). However, I am unable to settle
the question of the (concert) date as quickly, despite my best intentions and although this deems most desirable to you - and rightfully so, dear Pilling. The
reason for it is that I can only firm up Weimar once Leipzig and Berlin are set. I am constantly pushing there.. Yet, the question of the Hall in both cities is
so difficult, that these matters simply cannot be settled more speedily. On Saturday I will be back in Weimar again and will call Berlin from there. I have
already tried it from here, but was unable to reach the right person in Berlin. So, be patient for a little while longer, please! I am pushing as much as I
can. In haste, between somewhat strenuous rehearsals, cordial greetings to both of you and your daughters, Your Hermann Abendroth My wife will follow and get to
the concerts only on Thursday." .................$175 |
