11. GOTTSCHALK, Louis Moreau- AMusQS an 8 note arpeggio d/s to "Miss Baker with kind regards L Gottschalk Boston 17th (18)62" on
a 5 x 7" page. Gottschalk born in New Orleans was the son of a Jewish businessman and a Haitian creole. He studied in Paris and traveled extensively in Cuba, Central & South America
and by the early 1860s was considered one of the worlds leading pianists and a composer of note. Much of his music is based on what he heard as a child in New Orleans and is charming.
He died at age 40 collapsing during a piano recital in Rio after playing his piece "Morte!!" and as he started to play his popular "Tremolo". Gottschalk was a colorful and original

deficit at the Bayreuth Festival. Wilhelmj was the concert master and Richter & Dannreuther were the rehearsal conductors. Soloists were
