his most successful- a favorite of verismo prima donnas from Garden to Olivero, as well as Madonna Imperia, and Cyrano de Bergerac (1936) which is having it's Metropolitan Opera premiere this
season as a vehicle for Domingo! He was a noted teacher and influential figure in Italian musical life till his death in 1954
