forward to it". Above that the recipient Edward Speyer, German/English music agent & a great friend of Brahms has transcribed
the text , together with envelope of transmission from the Frankfurter Hof Hotel addressed to Dr. Johannes Brahms bei Clara
Schumann,32 Mylino Street,Trier. Interesting associations

CASTELNUOVO-TEDESCO, Mario- SP 8 x 10 portrait d/s "to Leo Dubensky remembering my American debut" of the Italian/Jewish
Composer who emigrated to the US in 1939 and became a highly successful film composer. Between the 2 world wars he composed a
great amount of music in all forms and achieved great success in Italy and elsewhere. In 1961 his opera "Merchant of Venice"
was a hit at the Florence May Festival SCARCE
CASTRO, Juan Jose- SP 4 x 6 photo of the Argentine composer/conductor. His Opera "Prosperino e il straniero" was
premiered at La Scala in 1952 and his other operas had considerable acclaim in Buenos Aires, Montevideo etc. as did his
ballets and symphonic works
D'INDY, Vincent- SP Reutlinger Carte de Visite bust portrait of the important French composer and educator. An
enormously prolific composer especially successful in large scale works. He founded the Schola Cantorum in 1896 which
became one of the aorld's leading music schools. He conducted world wide and wrote numerous articles and books d/s -Very
scarce this early
FAURE, Gabriel- the composer dedicates and signs the cover of the sheet music for "DOLLY Suite for the Pianoforte"
published by Metzler & Co. Limited, London. This remains one of the composer's most popular works
FRANCHETTI, Alberto- AMusQS from the Italian Jewish composer's opera "Cristoforo Colombo" which successfully premiered
in Genova 1892, 400 years after his discovery of America, and enjoyed success for several decades as did his operas Asrael
and Germania

GOTTSCHALK, Louis Moreau- Carte de Visite portrait photo d/s verso New York 5 Sept 1862 of the immensely popular
American composer and pianist who died at age 40 in Rio de Janeiro. New Orleans born the Creole and Negro music he heard
growing up influenced him as did Liszt and Chopin. He toured extensively Europe, US and South America including appearing
with the young Patti in Havana where he introduced his most famous orchestral work "La Nuit des Tropiques"- A legend in his
lifetime he remains, perhaps, the US's most important 19th century musician-without doubt a fascinating character. SCARCE
LISZT, Franz- signed pass/ticket (3 x 5") to admit Mr. Ellinger to the "Szent-Misei gyakorlatokra" at the Esztergom
Basilica, Pest in 1856. This is accompanied by an 8 pp program in German "uber Liszt's Messe on the occasion of the general
rehearsal at the National Museum in Pest on 26 August 1856 " Interesting and unusual
MASSENET, Jules- AMusQS from "Therese" Act 11- "Jour de Juin, jour d'ete" with ANS on post card showing his country home
at Egreville- 2 August 1906. "Therese" premiered February 1907 in Monte Carlo 6 months later- so a preview!!

MEYERBEER, Giacomo- ALS 1 p in French on his blind stamped stationery confirming a request for seats
MILHAUD, Darius- AMusQS from "Creation du Monde" on a post card portrait dedicated 1969
NOVELLO, Ivor- SPc portrait of the most important English musical comedy composer of the mid 20th century-one hit after
another and he appeared in many of them
PUCCINI, Giacomo- SPc showing the youngish composer. A little foxing on the white border, nice signature
RACHMANINOFF, Sergei- re PADEREWSKI TLS 1 p on his 505 West End Avenue New York City stationery to Mr. James Francis
Cooke of Etude Music magazine- January 27th,1931..."Dear Mr. Cooke, I am herewith sending you my article. There are more than

ROSSINI, Gioachino- SP 13 1/2 x 10" oval-splendid sepia portrait of the GREAT composer d/s "offert a mon amiable ami
Solieri G Rossini Parigi 10 mai 1863." This superb photograph with the photographer's logo printed on
it had probably been trimmed at the time for framing in the oval shape in vogue during the 19th century. Large size
photos of the composer are quite EXCEPTIONAL. Excellent condition
ROSSELINI, Renzo- SP 5 x 7 portrait of the noted Italian film composer score open. Among his credits are Stromboli,
Roma Citta Aperta (Open City), Voyage In Italy, L'amore etc. SCARCE
RUBINSTEIN, Anton- unsigned Ganz Bruxelles cabinet photo of the composer/pianist
RUBINSTEIN, Nikolai- unsigned Russian cabinet photo of Anton's younger pianist brother, longtime director of the Moscow
conservatory, teacher of Taneyev, Siloti, Sauer etc and conductor of many Tchaikowsky premieres
SHOSTAKOVICH, Dimitri- SP 4 x 6" photo of the Russian composer whose star is ever rising shown studying score. Leon
Botstein's brilliant festival this summer at Bard College gave the public a unique opportunity to hear a tremendous amount
of the composer's lesser known music
