3,1950" Antheil was an avant gardist before his time- His Ballet Mecanique created a sensation in 1926 in Paris and 1927 at
Carnegie Hall. He later turned to opera, film Knock on Any Door, Not as a Stranger etc and secret communication system
patents in tandem with Hedy Lamarr! He called himself the Bad Boy of Music. Rather scarce

MIGNONE, Francisco- AMusQS on 8 x 10 photo of the Brasilian composer b.1897. Breifly studying in Italy he returned to
Brasil and wrote at first using the pseudonym Chico Bororo. His first big success was the opera O Contratador de Diamantes
-Rio de Janeiro 1942. He achieved great success during the 1930s-60s with his Work Symphony, the ballet Maracatu do Chico-Rei
and his beloved waltzes for the piano. This photo dates from 1942 when he was in New York for the premiere of Festa da
Igrejas. He also wrote extensively for orchestra, violin, piano and chamber ensemble. Quite uncommon
MOSZKOWSKI, Moritz- AMusQS on first page of piano vocal score for his opera BOABDIL Berlin 14/293. This was perhaps his
largest work. The score has loose binding and is not in prime condition but the page with the quote is just fine
NYMAN, Michael- SP 5 x 7" color photo of the British composer b.1944 who found himself out of touch with both the pop
music and Stockhausen school and turned to writing about music for many years authoring the book Experimental Music-John Cage
and Beyond- after which he started writing music using medieval instruments often with amplification for his Michael Nyman
Band. He turned to film writing many distinctive scores culmination in Jane Campion's The Piano
PAER, Ferdinando- ALS 1 p from the late 18th-early 19th century Italian opera composer who started as honorary maestro
di cappella in Parma where he wrote Griselda. He took posts in Vienna, Prague and Dresden before accepting Napoleon's
invitation to Paris where he took over the Opera Comique and later after Spontini's dismissal the Theatre Italien. He wrote
an opera Leonore identical in subject to Beethoven's Fidelio which was revived during the 1970s by Peter Maag
PONCHIELLI, Amilcare- ALS 3 pp on the composer's initialed stationery 3/1/(18)77-to "Dear Mr. Lawyer"- the composer of
La Gioconda writes about the situation that has arisen re the late librettist Piave..."Allow me to tell you, however, how
inexplicable I find it that you talk to me about honesty! Where was I lacking with Piave? The agreement or rather the
contract was made in which he promised to write me a libretto and I would pay him 300 francs. He was paid and still have the
receipt. I didn't continue the opera that I had begun because I needed a lot of adjustments from poor Piave who unfortunately
was struck with apoplexy. So now these changes that needed to be made have multiplied, since the tempos need at many points
other forms not to mention certain political allusions that at one time would have been effective, now no-I'm alluding to the
tenor's aria in prison..." Interesting correspondence re the proposed opera" Vico"
PROKOFIEFF, Serge- the Russian composer signs a New York Symphony program conducted by Alfred Coates at Carnegie Hall
Jan 26 & 27 1922 with Prokofieff playing his Concerto No 3 for Piano
PUCCINI, Giacomo- AMusQS from MADAMA BUTTERFLY "Un bel di" 100 years old on February 17,2004! Nicely penned by Puccini
on a 5 x 7 album leaf Montevideo 9.8.905
RACHMANINOFF, Sergei- signs the program for The Philharmonic Society of New York's January 23, 1920 concert conducted
by Josef Stransky (who also signs) in which Rachmaninoff's Symphony 2 was given
(SCHUBERT, Franz)- vintage concert ticket 4 x 5" for the Gesellschafts-Concert der Muiskfreunde des Osterreichischen
Kaiserstaates im k.k.Grossen Redouten-Saale- Mitte links 1866.-- Vienna Nov. 4,1866. On this date Johann Herbeck conducting
the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra with the 2nd performance of Schubert's 1X Symphony (The Unfinished) and actually the FIRST
PERFORMANCE with the "unfinished" version. Herbeck had conducted the "first" performance on Dec.17,1865 and finished the two
movements with the finale of 111rd symphony to get the character of a complete symphony. Very unusual and interesting item
with the lower left corner cut off which was the way to cancel tickets in Vienna at the time
TANSMAN, Alexandre- SPc pf the Polish-French composer at the piano d/s to Mrs Felton 1930. together with a program for
a piano recital by Tansman of his own works given at the home of Mrs.Charles N.Felton January 13,1930. Tansman was a very
prolific composer writing in all forms opera, ballet, symphony chamber, piano and film from 1940-46 when he lived in
Hollywood. Uncommon
