of the score for the film Dangerous Moonlight (Suicide Squadron in the US). He was best known as a composer of theatre and

CATALANI, Alfredo- ALS from the short lived Italian composer who wanted to achieve a Wagnerian feeling in Italian
opera. He was championed by Toscanini who named one of his daughters after Catalani's most successful opera La Wally.
Dejanice, Edmea and Lorely (being performed this season in New York) all achieved some success at the time of
their premieres. Catalani also taught composition succeeding Ponchielli at the Milan Conservatory. In this letter he writes...

stating that he" is not in accord with the Pope and M. Vincent d'Indy..that the soloists are in opposition to the religious
style and should be banished from church music.."and so it goes on in great depth. A FASCINATING letter, way out of the
ordinary!

longtime lawyer Arnold Weissberger asking for his permission to reprint a biographical article & words on Oedipus Rex in
