BARBER, Samuel- AMusQS large example from the American composer's popular Sonata for Piano sending greetings and
congratulations March 1952 on a 9 x 12" paper. Together with an unsigned photo of Barber
BARTOK, Bela and PASZTORY BARTOK, Ditta- both sign back of a calling card, the composer in the center quite large and
his pianist second wife below smaller. Together with unsigned photo of them both. Uncommon
BIZET, Georges- signature together with unsigned portrait of the composer of Carmen possibly the most popular opera ever
composed. SCARCE
BRUCKNER, Anton and WAGNER, Richard- interesting facsimile "advertisement" on W.KOHLER - Zum Golden Anker Bayreuth
embossed stationery. Bruckner made Wagner's acquaintance in 1865, in 1873 he asked him to accept the dedication of one of
his symphonies. He sent Wagner two for approval and Wagner consented but he forgot to ask Wagner which one Wagner preferred.
Bruckner then sent Wagner a note referring to the Third Symphony in D minor reproduced here to which Wagner replied "Yes,
Yes warmest greetings" The result was that this symphony was dedicated to Wagner. This exchange of notes between the two
composers was reproduced as a form of publicity. HIGHLY UNUSUAL
CORNELIUS, Peter- d/s cover of libretto for his second opera Der Cid 1865. Corenlius's masteriece was The Barber of
Bagdad premiered under Liszt's direction at Wiemar. Corenlius was a noted writer and teacher too. Autograph material of the
19th century German composer is quite elusive
DUPARC, Henri- ALS 1 p in French arranging a dinner from the composer of some of the most exquisite songs in the French
song literature. A nervous affliction cut short his career. Extremely scarce
GERSHWIN, George- THE great American composer signs Lewisohn Stadium program page for concert of his works July 9 & 10,
1936 by the Philharmonic Society under Alexander Smallens. The program included An American in Paris, Piano Concerto in F
with Gershwin as PIANO SOLOIST, selections from Porgy & Bess (Anne Brown and Todd Duncan sang) AND Rhapsody in Blue again
with Gershwin as soloist. Lily Pons who must have been in the audience also signed
GOMES, Carlos- ALS 4 pp in Italian on his personalized stationery from the Brasilian composer long based in Italy
where his operas Guaranay, Lo Schiavo, Fosca etc. enjoyed great success during the late 19th century and are hopefully
staging a comeback- they are highly entertaining! In this letter he introduces Cav Carlo Carlo Mazzoni Brasilian consul in
Milano to his friends the Appianis asking their influence in securing a position at the Conservatory for a relative of
Mazzoni. In the course of the letter he mentions Ponchielli and others and writes in a most gracious and thankful manner.

MOSKOWSKI, Moritz- AMusQS from Concerto for Viola Andante Paris 26/5/1909 from the famed German composer, pianist and
teacher (Landowska, Josef Hofmann, Nin and Turina)
PUCCINI, Giacomo- TDS- typed receipt to the Societa per ³lıarte di Gaetano Previata" Milano 1920 acknowledging the
recipt of 1800 Lire signed over the official stamp by Puccini. Together with unsigned photo of the composer
ROSSINI, Gioachino- signs highly decorative large 4 x 10" check drawn 18 Juin 1861 for Livres 3400 on the Rothschild
freres bank Paris for Monsieur Baccani, Florence. Nice bold signature together with unsigned image of the ever popular
Italian composer
SULLIVAN, Sir Arthur- ALS with 2 tears where stamps were removed from envelope taking part of text away. Still you get
the jist of it and you have a very fine -" I am yours very truly Arthur Sullivan" nice and big
TALMA, Louise- AMusQS Hauptthema des Apollo in DIE AEKESTIADE s Frankfurt am Main 1 Marz 1962 the time of the opera's
premiere on 6 x 8" sheet of music paper. The important French American composer was a Isidor Philipp and Nadia Boulanger
pupil. Thornton WILDER also signs the bottom of the page!
VERDI, Giuseppe- ALS 1 p in Italian- size 4 x 7" "2 Nov 1894-Dear Sig. Melani, I received yesterday the cases of wine.
Now what is left is to pay for it. Please send me the bill for what I owe you calculating the empty cases and returned
bottles. Do it as soon as possible as I am going to the country and want to send you a check before leaving. As always G.
