6. BRUCKNER, Anton- handwritten envelope addressed by the master organist/composer to musicologist August Gollerich his biographer, a Liszt pupil as well as Liszt's secretary... "Hochwohlgboren Herrn Aug. Gollerich, Musikdirector etc etc in Nurnberg Bauern" postmarked Wien 4.1.1894. Together with an unsigned image of the composer. Autograph material of Bruckner is very scarce and sought after so this fine example is of great interest because of the association even if there is no signature.

DALLAPICCOLA, Luigi- AMusQS from perhaps his most important work the opera "Il Prigoniero" written out on a 3 x 5" card, November 1964 New York"- The New York City Opera presented this opera in 1960 conducted by Leopold Stokowski. He wrote the music for the 1916 Broadway spectacle "The Big Show", the British hit "Clo Clo" among many others collaborating too with Noel Coward. His hit songs include "Till the Band Comes Home", Suzette" and "Some Day You'll Miss Me". He was actress Ruby Miller's second husband. He made jazz and piano classical records. This photo shows him as a pre-teener in a conducting pose. He died at age 37!

He won a Grammy and Academy award for his first film score "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" in 2001. He also created the musical setting for the film "Hero" composed "Water Passion After St. Matthew" in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of Bach's Death.

FETIS, Francois-Joseph- ALS 1.25 pp 8 Novembre 1850 to music publisher Giovanni Ricordi from the important music theorist, historian & critic one of the most important figures in musicology and his volumes of musical biography are astounding. He also composed 7 opera for the Opera Comique as well as other works, In this 1850 letter in French to Ricordi he writes " permit me to commend to your goodwill and your influence Mlle. Dubignon who goes to the Theatre La Scala as premiere danseuse during the coming season. This artist poses a talent distinguished, pure and correct (what else I wonder!!) For several seasons she has occupied the same position at Brussels with great success. I hope that her good fortune in Milano will be no less. You are always so good and obliging to artists of talent, willing to be of service to them and to protect them to the best of your ability that I do not doubt your goodness to Mlle. Dubignon. .................$175		 19. GOTOVAC, Jakov- SP 3.5 x 4.75" portrait of the Croatian composer best known for his opera "Ero the Joker" the Croatian National Opera which premiered in Zagreb 1935. As well as composing several other operas and symphonic music he was conductor of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb 1923-1958. His music combines both romantic and folkloric elements. .................$300		 23. KORNGOLD, Erich Wolfgang- AMusQS from the Viennese prodigy's greatest triumph "Die Tote Stadt" premiered in Hamburg and Koln in Dec 4, 1920. In 1929 he started his collaboration with director Max Reinhardt and went to Hollywood in 1934 in order to do the arrangements of Mendelssohn's music for the film of "A Midsummer's Night Dream" ­He remained in Hollywood and became one of the most successful film composers of all time. After critical dismissal and neglect Korngold's "serious" music is being taken seriously - people love the old fashioned romantic melody. 27. MARTINON, Jean- AMusQS "Altitudes" from his Symphony #4 penned on a 3 x 5" card by the French composer/ conductor. He led the Chicago orchestra 1960-66 and was criticized for presenting too much contemporary music. Martinon was very prolific composer in all fields from opera to chamber music in a Neo Classic to Romantic style with a modern feeling. With a letter of transmittal. Uncommon.

NANCARROW, Conlon- A 4 x 6" color photo signed on the back together with a handwritten envelope with the American born Mexico resident composer's handwritten address to the recipient and his stamped return address. Nancarrow was the innovator of a technique of recordings notes on piano player rolls which must be activated in order to notate the music. He was a pupil of Slonimsky, Piston and Sessions. Together with a photo of Nancarrow. Any example of his writing is VERY SCARCE.

SCHNITTKE, Alfred- SPc size photo of the late Russian/German modernist avant garde composer who wrote of 70 film scores in addition to his vast classical output (The Piano Quintet, Concerto Grosso #1and Symphony #1 are 3 example of his most popular works) . He composed violin and cello works for his friends Bashmet, Kremer and Rostropovich as well as opera. Always on the outs with the Soviet authorities he settled in Hamburg where he had a stroke in 1985 which led to a very fruitful later period of composition prior to his death in 1998.

This is a most interesting letter about the cornerstone laying of Bayreuth Festspielhaus." Dear Sir, I just had a copy of the Leipziger Musikalische Wochenblatt sent to you from which you will see that the administrative council of the Bayreuth affair is now established in Bayreuth and that the shipments are to be addressed to Mr. Friedrich Feustel in Bayreuth (banker &city councilor) also by the same person the payments will be collected immediately unless upon special request a delay is to take place. At present the finances must be made available because the preliminary work is beginning. Have you heard that on the day of the laying of the cornerstone (the 28th of May) Wagner will perform the 9th Symphony for patrons & members of the organization? .................$675		 52. WAGNER, Richard- handwritten envelope addressed by the revolutionary composer to " Hochwohlgeboren Herrn J. Helmesberger, Conzertmeister am K.K. Hoforchester in Wien" postmarked Luzern 14.12.67.On the back flap of the envelope is Wagner's embossed monogram RW. Helmesberger was one of the great violinist of the period and held the important post of concert master of the K.K. Hof Orchester in Vienna. Even though this is not signed by Wagner it is a nice example of his writing and highly desirable because of the great association. Together with image of Wagner.
